Hey There

My name is Mykel! I've been officially working in the publishing industry for two years, but I have been learning and studying the craft of writing, editing, and publishing for over nine years! I would love nothing more than to help you and your book baby become the next big hit. So what do you say? Are you ready to take the next step into becoming a fully fledged, published author? I work mainly in the genres of science fiction, dystopian, and fantasy, but can potentially work on other genres. If your book falls into another category, please feel free to reach out and ask! I only work on young adult, middle school, and children's books, as that is my field of expertise.

What Type of Edits Do You Need?

There are multiple types of edits that each book needs to go through before being published.

The first round of edits are usually the big picture edits, also known as developmental edits. For this round, I will read through your book and look at broad story elements such as structure, plot holes, character arcs, pacing, and dialogue to make sure everything is flowing well.

After developmental edits comes line edits! In this round I will read through the book in closer detail, going line to line to find inconsistencies. Is your character's eyes blue in chapter one and brown in chapter twenty? Does your sentence structure make sense? Is everything flowing well and sounding coherent? In line edits, I will find the mistakes and errors in individual lines of your manuscript.

The next and final step is proofreading! This is where I go into the nitty gritty grammar details. In the proofreading stage, I looked for spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors. This is usually the final step, after everything else has been completed and the manuscript is finalized. This will be the time to polish your manuscript!

Developmental Edits

The cost for developmental edits is .005 cents a word. This means that a manuscript of 50,000 words would come out to $250.

I try to work fast but do have a full-time job. If you have a deadline, please let me know during the application process and we can work out a timeline for the completion of the edits.

I also offer a 1,500 word free sample edit so we can make sure the project is a good fit for both of us! If you are interested in working with me, please contact me and we can set up a sample edit. During this process I withhold the right to decline partnership, and offer the same courtesy to you if you do not like my editing style. Working with an editor is a very personal process and, while I hope that you will enjoy having your book baby edited by me, I understand that editors are not a one size fit all deal.

Once the manuscript has been completely edited, I will also write up a detailed evaluation letter to cover concerns and praise in more detail! Yes, I love to give plenty of praise in my edits as well as critiques! After all, as an author myself, I understand just how hard it can be to share your work with someone else, and want to make the process as easy as possible! My job is to make your book better, but I love being able to point out how awesome it is as well (and maybe fangirl a bit along the way). If you have a captivating villain, I make no promises that I won't fall in love. I love stories with good villains!
